NTI Experts Available for Commentary on the Nuclear Security Summit

For the past 10 years, the Nuclear Threat Initiative, a US-based nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, has worked to lock down weapons and materials, change Cold War postures, reduce nuclear arsenals and limit the spread of uranium enrichment facilities.  NTI believes that nuclear terrorism remains the greatest threat to global security and welcomes the Nuclear Security Summit process to address this threat as a common global challenge and responsibility.

Joan Rohlfing, NTI president, is participating in the Nuclear Industry Summit. A founding NTI  official, she has played strategic roles in key programs, such as the World Institute for Nuclear Security and the Nuclear Security Project, led by former US Cabinet Secretaries  George P. Shultz, William J. Perry and Henry A. Kissinger with former US Senator Sam Nunn. Earlier, she held senior positions with the US Department of Energy, as advisor to the US ambassador to India on nuclear security issues, on the staff of the US House Armed Services Committee and at the US Department of Defense.

Corey Hinderstein, NTI vice president, is presenting at the Nuclear Security Symposium.  She leads NTI efforts related to building norms, regimes and frameworks for global nuclear nonproliferation and security. Areas of focus include minimizing uses of highly enriched uranium, management and verification of nuclear fuel cycle activities internationally, improving nuclear security and other nuclear risk reduction efforts.

Page Stoutland, Ph.D., NTI vice president, is presenting at the Nuclear Security Symposium.  He is responsible for NTI's programs to strengthen and maintain the security of nuclear materials around the world and co-leads the NTI Nuclear Materials Security Index (www.ntiindex.org), a first-of-its-kind public benchmarking project of nuclear materials security conditions on a country-by-country basis, in 176 countries.  He formerly held a series of senior positions, over a 10- year period, at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

Deepti Choubey, senior director for nuclear and bio-security, co-leads the NTI Nuclear Materials Security Index.  Before joining NTI, Choubey was deputy director of the Nuclear Policy Program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and led the Carnegie International Nuclear Policy Conference.
