Russia intends to provide its state-of-the-art S-400 air-defense system to Belarus as part of a planned bilateral shield, Interfax reported yesterday (see GSN, Feb. 10).
"This joint (Russian-Belarusian) regional air-defense system must be armed with the latest weapons. We are currently negotiating the specific dates of supplying S-400s to Belarus. There can be no doubt that this will happen as part of our efforts to develop a joint air-defense system," said Lt. Gen. Vadim Volkovitsky, first deputy commander in chief of the Russian air force.
The Russian army ie expected to continue to receive S-400 defenses throughout this year, Volkovitsky said (Interfax, April 9).
