Cyber Terrorists Face Execution in Pakistan
Pakistan has issued an order allowing for executions of people who commit acts of cyber terrorism, the Reuters reported yesterday (see GSN, Nov. 9, 2006).
A cyber terrorist would be anyone who “knowingly engages in or attempts to engage in a terroristic act” using a computer or electronic system, according to the Prevention of Electronic Crimes ordinance.
The banned activities include illicit acquisition or reproduction of classified data that would assist in production of biological, chemical or nuclear weapons
“Whoever commits the offense of cyber terrorism and causes death of any person shall be punishable with death or imprisonment for life,” states the rule, issued by Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari (Reuters, Nov. 7).
