Japan to Fund WMD Detection Research
The Japanese Defense Ministry plans to ask universities and private researchers to help develop a new generation of WMD detectors, The Daily Yomiuri reported today (see GSN, April 4).
The new systems would incorporate advances in electromagnetic technology to detect lethal biological and chemical agents at a distance of several kilometers to reduce the risk facing emergency response personnel.
Research grant applicants would be able to issue proposals later this month (The Daily Yomiuri, May 10).
