Jordan Receives Aid in Fight Against WMD Proliferation
The United States yesterday delivered $60,000 worth of technology to help Jordan "deter, detect and interdict" the illegal trafficking of weapons of mass destruction, associated substances and conventional armaments, the U.S. Embassy in Amman announced (see GSN, March 10).
The detection technology would increase safeguards at Jordan's borders, according to Maj. Gen. Ghalib al-Sarayrah, head of the Jordan Customs Department.
The equipment was provided through the U.S. State Department's Export Control and Related Border Security Program, which aims to fight WMD proliferation and the means to deliver the weapons, as well as to disrupt the illicit movement of conventional weapons (U.S. Embassy to Jordan press release, March 31).
