Pentagon Affirms Support for Israeli Defenses
The U.S. Defense Department on Tuesday affirmed its intention to continue funding Israeli missile defense, Reuters reported.
New Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel met for close to two hours with Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak.
"Secretary Hagel is committed to working with members of Congress to ensure that there is no interruption of funding for Iron Dome, Arrow, and David's Sling rocket and missile defense systems," according to an unidentified Pentagon insider.
Recent news reports have indicated Tel Aviv is concerned that it could lose hundreds of millions of dollars in U.S. military assistance due to the federal budget sequester that went into effect on March 1.
