Russian Military Activates New S-400 Regiment

The Russian military on Thursday was slated to activate additional advanced S-400 antimissile units in accordance with a goal of having 28 operational Triumf regiments before the decade is over, RIA Novosti reported (see GSN, July 17).

The S-400 Triumf was designed to eliminate cruise missiles, medium-range ballistic missiles, and fighter aircraft. A regiment stationed not far from Nakhodka in the Primorye region became the fourth such military unit to receive the system, according to an Eastern Military District spokesman.

There are also S-400 systems fielded in Kaliningrad region and in the Moscow area (RIA Novosti, Aug. 15).
