Taiwan Looks for Long Distance Strike Capability Against China

Taiwan is planning to build a missile that can strike far into China, according to a Taiwanese National Defense Ministry report submitted to lawmakers yesterday (see GSN, Aug. 1).

Defense officials, wary of the threat from China, are seeking ballistic and cruise missiles to hit Beijing's military hardware, according to the Taipei Times.

Researchers at the Chung Shan Institute of Science and Technology have reportedly been adapting ballistic and cruise missiles from land-to-air and antiship missile technology, according to defense sources.  Some of those adapted missiles are already in service, according to the Times (Brian Hsu, Taipei Times, Oct. 10).
