U.S. Plans Missile Interceptor Trial

The United States plans to conduct a new test on Saturday of a troubled antimissile system designed to defend against long-range enemy strikes, the Lompoc Record reported on Tuesday.

The flight trial of the Ground-based Midcourse Defense System -- due to take place at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California -- is intended “to assess performance of the advanced kill vehicle after completion of guidance enhancements,” Missile Defense Agency spokesman Rick Lehner said.

“We had planned to conduct the launch late in 2012 but it was delayed about a month to complete some additional work,” Lehner added.
