Uzbekistan Amends Export Law to Include WMD Material

Uzbek President Islam Karimov has approved an amendment adding WMD materials to his nation’s export law, UzReport.com reported today (see GSN, Feb. 16, 2005).

The law now states that “nuclear, chemical and bacteriological (biological) materials, including pathogens causing extremely dangerous infections and their strains, that can be used as components in the production of weapons of mass destruction shall be exported with the approval of the [Supreme Assembly’s] chambers in accordance with the law” (UzReport.com, June 21).
