Keep a Cap on Nukes

“When you take off nuclear restrictions, that’s a big problem.” – President Trump

The Stakes

The last remaining limits on nuclear weapons in the United States and Russia are set to disappear when the New START treaty expires on February 5, marking the first time in decades humanity has been without a treaty capping the number of nuclear weapons in the world’s two largest nuclear powers.

President Trump has stated “that’s not an agreement you want expiring” and has doubled down on wanting to negotiate a new treaty. The president has been clear: we already have enough nuclear firepower. He wants a better deal that protects the country without fueling a costly, unnecessary arms race. And U.S. voters overwhelmingly agree, including 85% of Trump voters who want to keep a cap on nukes with Russia.

This is the moment for smart U.S. leadership and strong dealmaking. Learn more about what President Trump has said about nukes and urge him to make the deal to keep a cap on nukes.
