NTI | bio is excited to launch the application for the 2024 Next Generation Biosecurity Delegation! This year, we will bring a delegation of early-career professionals to the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) meetings from August 19 – 23. This opportunity is designed to contribute to an energized, internationally connected, and diverse network of next-generation leaders who are working to strengthen global biosecurity.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Program participants will have the opportunity to:
- Travel to Geneva to attend the BWC Meeting of the Working Group on the strengthening of the Convention.
- Meet, collaborate, and network in-person with fellow early-career professionals, scientists, diplomats, experts, civil society actors.
- Present policy and technical recommendations on building a safer future through strengthening biosecurity at a poster session side event at the BWC.
- Join a growing network of early-career biosecurity professionals.
APPLICATION INFORMATION
To apply, please complete the form here. Applicants must:
- Be between the ages of 18 and 40.
- Have a strong command of written and spoken English. All program activities will be conducted in English.
- Complete their application form, including providing a written abstract for a poster presentation.
The selection process will focus on identifying the highest quality candidates while maintaining gender and regional balance. All are welcome to apply but preference will be given to individuals who have not previously attended an in-person BWC meeting.
Application materials include:
- Resume – not to exceed two pages
- Answers to the following application questions (250 words max):
- What is your interest/background in biosecurity?
- How would this opportunity help advance your career goals?
- An abstract for a poster presentation (500 words or fewer) that outlines:
- A policy or technical issue in biosecurity that interests you and that you believe is a priority to address.
- Policy and/or technical recommendations for addressing your identified issue with the goal of strengthening biosecurity at the national, regional, and/or global levels. We encourage recommendations that consider the role the BWC might play in your proposed solutions.
For the purposes of this application, please use the following definition for biosecurity – the “successful minimizing of the risks that the biological sciences will be deliberately or accidentally misused in a way which causes harm for humans, animals, plants or the environment, including through awareness and understanding of the risks”.
