From the sidelines of the Cuban Missile Crisis to the invention of stealth technology, former U.S. Secretary of Defense William J. Perry recounts his life's work in My Journey at the Nuclear Brink. This new book, published by Stanford University Press, is a deeply inspiring account of Dr. Perry’s experiences during and after the Cold War.
The book follows his career as he worked to shape U.S. nuclear weapons policy under three Administrations, beginning with the Cuban Missile Crisis and ending with overseeing the dismantling of nuclear weapons during the Clinton Administration. He explains what led him to his position that nuclear weapons "endanger our society rather than securing it."
On Wednesday, December 2, NTI and The George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs' Nuclear Policy Talks program will co-host an event celebrating the book's release. The event will feature Dr. Perry and will be hosted by NTI Co-Chairman and CEO Sam Nunn, along with GW's Professor Allison MacFarlane. Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist David Hoffman will moderate the discussion. Politics and Prose will have copies of the book for sale.
