For Professors: Updated Curriculum Based on NTI Index Now Available

An updated education module based on the 2016 Nuclear Security Summit is now
available. The module provides a two-session curriculum on nuclear materials
security for undergraduate or graduate courses in international relations,
security studies, diplomacy, counter-terrorism, or nuclear sciences. It includes
a “Model Summit” experience for students with lesson plans, talking points and
a PowerPoint briefing for professors.

The module includes an introduction to nuclear materials
security that would be covered in two class periods and a lecture outline with
slides and a simulated Summit to develop students’ perspectives on nuclear
materials security.  Students consider
technical questions, policy issues, and engage in a discussion of sovereign
versus global responsibilities.

The 2016 version of the curriculum is based on the updated
2016 NTI Nuclear Security Index, a
first-of-its-kind public benchmarking of nuclear security in 176
countries.  The updated curriculum also
includes new resources for additional reading.

The NTI Index, prepared with the Economist Intelligence
Unit, was created to spark an international discussion about priorities
required to strengthen security.
