Bomb overboard

Following an accidental mid-air collision with a fighter jet in 1958, the pilot of a B-47 bomber was worried that the hydrogen bomb he was carrying might detonate when he landed his damaged plane. To avoid a nuclear explosion, he jettisoned the 7,600-pound bomb off the coast of Georgia.

The bomb, 190 times more powerful than the one dropped on Nagasaki, was never found.
