Education Module Introduces Students to Nuclear Materials Security
A new education module provides a two-session curriculum on nuclear materials security for undergraduate or graduate courses in international relations, security studies, diplomacy, counter-terrorism, or nuclear sciences. It consists of lesson plans, talking points and a PowerPoint briefing for professors.
The module includes an introduction to nuclear materials security that would be covered in two class periods and includes a lecture outline with slides and a simulation exercise to develop students’ perspectives on nuclear materials security. Students consider technical questions, policy issues, and engage in a discussion of sovereign versus global responsibilities.
The module incorporates NTI’s Nuclear Materials Security Index, a first-of-its-kind public benchmarking project of nuclear materials security conditions on a country-by-country basis. The NTI Index, prepared with the Economist Intelligence Unit, was created to spark an international discussion about priorities required to strengthen security.
