NTI Hosts New York Times’ David Sanger for Cybersecurity Discussion

On July 25, as part of NTI’s ongoing seminar series, New York Times national security
correspondent David Sanger discussed his new book, The Perfect Weapon: War, Sabotage, and Fear in the Cyber Age. The
event, hosted by NTI CEO Ernest J.
Moniz
, drew a large crowd to discuss cyber threats and how the rise of
cyberweapons has transformed geopolitics. Sanger touched upon major themes in
his book, addressing how increasingly intertwined supply chains, evolving cyber
threats, and continued government secrecy about cyberattacks increase vulnerabilities.
He encouraged citizens to get more involved and demand answers on how the
government is addressing cyber risks.

Moniz and Sanger also discussed the intersection of cyber
and nuclear issues, particularly how cyberattacks could affect nuclear weapon
command-and-control systems. NTI is leading a Cyber-Nuclear Weapons Study Group,
and Senior Director Samantha Pitts-Kiefer and Vice President Page Stoutland
previewed during the seminar an upcoming report from the group on these issues. Click here to learn more about NTI’s work in this area.
