It discusses why the continued widespread use, internationally, of HEU in the civilian sector poses global security risks, provides an overview of progress to-date in reducing and eliminating the use of HEU in the civilian sector worldwide, and examines remaining challenges to achieving this goal. The collection also includes detailed analysis of progress in eight key countries.

Holgate and CENESS’s Anton Khlopkov, provides an overview of the IAEA categorization of radioactive isotopes, the co-chairs’ summary of the most recent regional workshop, and other workshop materials. NTI and CENESS encourage experts from the region to use these materials to sustain effective security of radioactive sources and as the basis for continued regional dialogue on these important issues.

Building a Safe, Secure, and Credible NATO Nuclear Posture addresses the security risks, credibility, and financial and political costs of maintaining NATO’s current nuclear posture, including forward-deployed U.S. nuclear weapons in Europe. The report urges U.S. and NATO leaders to re-evaluate whether storing nuclear weapons at multiple sites across multiple countries makes sense in light of today’s threats and escalating costs—and, importantly, whether the weapons are still required elements of NATO defense policy.
