CTR's export control program provides assistance to control effectively the
export of materials and technology, and contribute to international efforts to
halt the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and related technology.
Beginning in fiscal year 1997, funding for US export control activities in the
Newly Independent States was transferred to the US Department of State, which
cooperates with the US Department of Commerce on program implementation. For a more detailed overview of Russian
