Ahead of the 2014 Nuclear Security Summit, the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies has released a new resource on the global trafficking of nuclear and radiological materials. Prepared with the support of NTI, the report finds 153 instances where materials were lost, stolen, or out of regulatory control in 2013 alone.
Findings and policy recommendations accompany the CNS database, which catalogs incidents from January-December 2013.
As new data is added on an annual basis, the database can help highlight trends and assess the impact of new policies designed to reduce the nuclear security risks posed by trafficking.
