NTI and CNS release Iran Deal Progress Report Video

The Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI), in partnership with the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS), today released a new video on the current progress of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), more commonly known as the Iran Deal.  The new video tracks the key metrics of the JCPOA and will be updated as new progress reports are issued by the International Atomic Energy Agency.

In early 2015, Iran was estimated to be 2-3 months away from developing the capability to produce enough highly enriched uranium for a nuclear weapon. Then in July, a diplomatic breakthrough led to the JCPOA. This 25-year agreement between the P5+1 (China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States and Germany) and Iran limits Iran’s nuclear capabilities and accords inspectors unprecedented access for monitoring and verification. In exchange for Iran’s progress in meeting key metrics (outlined in the video) of the agreement, all nuclear-related sanctions on Iran were lifted in January 2016.
