Recommendations for a Successful 10th NPT Review Conference

A new NTI paper, Toward a Successful 10th NPT Review Conference: Recommendations informed by NTI’s Global Enterprise to Strengthen Nonproliferation and Disarmament, offers a focused set of recommendations for achieving success at the 10th Review Conference (RevCon) of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) to be held in New York from January 4-22, 2022.

As states prepare for the RevCon, the NTI paper provides recommendations for specific commitments related to practical and achievable actions that will advance the NPT’s goals now and in the future. It presents substantive ideas for cooperative engagement on disarmament and nuclear risk reduction, transparency, and fissile material management, as well as new ways to advance the NPT’s goals through Joint Voluntary Commitments (JVCs) by groups of NPT States parties.

The paper is informed by discussions in NTI’s Global Enterprise to Strengthen Nonproliferation and Disarmament (GE), a multi-year Track 1.5 initiative aimed at helping strengthen the NPT by developing ideas for practical steps, new initiatives, and tangible commitments that demonstrate the ability of NPT parties to work together to advance the NPT goals.
