The Pakistan Research Reactor 1 (PARR-1) is a 10MW pool type research reactor, located at and operated by the Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology (PINSTECH). 
The U.S.-supplied PARR-1—which went critical on 21 December 1965—was initially designed as a 5MW reactor utilizing highly enriched uranium (HEU).  After the United States suspended its supply of HEU, the PARR-1 was converted in 1992 to a 10MW reactor utilizing low-enriched uranium (LEU), which China currently supplies. 
The PARR-1 has been used for radioisotope production, beam tube experiments, neutron radiography, and the training of nuclear reactor operators and nuclear engineering students.  The PARR-1 is under IAEA safeguards.
