The Pakistan Research Reactor 2 (PARR-2) is a 27-30KW miniature neutron-source (MNSR) research reactor located at and operated by the Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology (PINSTECH). [1] Supplied by China in 1989, the PARR-2 is fueled by one kilogram of highly enriched uranium (HEU). [2]

The PARR-2 has been used for radioisotope production, research in nuclear physics and nuclear engineering, and the training of nuclear reactor operators and students. [3] Although the decision faced some domestic opposition, the PARR-2 was placed under IAEA safeguards. [4] Pakistan's government argued that the decision was in conformity with the peaceful nature of Pakistan's nuclear program. [5]
